Academic publishing can feel overwhelming and intimidating, especially due to the reputation of the peer-review and editing processes. But what if we could work differently? Editing Generously borrows from Kathleen Fitzpatrick’s books, Generous Thinking and Leading Generously, and Lee Skallerup Bessette, PhD, in this session, will explain the concept and provide a roadmap to how to create your own publishing opportunities which are generative, generous, and focuses on community and support. Due to the pressures of modern academia, we have forgotten that publishing is supposed to be a way to share and learn from our intellectual community. In this session, we will explore ways to put that purpose back to the forefront.
SoTL Speaker’s Bio:
Lee Skallerup Bessette, PhD, is the Assistant Director for Digital Learning at the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS) at Georgetown University. She is also the editor of The National Teaching and Learning Forum. Skallerup Bessette’s writing has appeared in The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside HigherEd, Diversity in Higher Education, Women in Higher Education, Hybrid Pedagogy, and she has edited or co-edited four books and one special journal issue.
