Workshop Description:

The acronym “SoTL” stands for “Scholarship of Teaching and Learning,” and refers to reflexive practice and research undertaken by educators for educators. In post-secondary institutions across the continent today known as North America, faculty, staff, and even students collaborate on SoTL projects to share teaching tips and experiences, with the goal of enhancing teaching and learning. At YU + TFS, we represent diverse instructional identities, bodies, backgrounds, classrooms, modalities, and more…so when it comes to mobilizing our individual and collective teaching experiences, we can and do have a lot to contribute to these conversations.

Not sure where to start? Join us for this workshop, where we’ll take you through the background and history of SoTL in Canadian higher education, and build on what “scholarship” means to us, what it looks like, and what it can look like. We’ll highlight the wide spectrum of scholarly teaching activities – from practice-focused reflective teaching to more formal research – and we’ll identify pathways to get started and to keep going in this work.
