SUMMARY:Taskmaster for Group Work
DESCRIPTION:Taskmaster for Group Work\nDate: Tuesday\, September 2nd\, 2025 \nTime: 10:30-12:00pm (PT)* / 1:30-3:00pm (ET)* / 2:30-4:00pm (AT)* \nRegistration link \nWorkshop Description: \nTaskmaster is a British comedy game show running since 2015\, but with foundations in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2009 and 2011. The show sees five comedians engaged in a combination of pre-recorded and live weekly tasks\, facilitated by creator and Taskmaster assistant “little” Alex Horne\, and judged by the Taskmaster comedian Greg Davies. From individual to team tasks and from the simplest to the most absurd requests\, Taskmaster (and its related spin-offs and international versions) is a treasure trove of inspiration for community-building\, experiential learning\, and team-building activities. \nJoin the CTEI over three workshops as our educational developers and technologists challenge you to some tasks and facilitate reflections on conversations on how you can use game shows and reality television as great starting points for designing learning activities. \nEach workshop will explore three different activities\, and you are invited to attend all three workshops or just one or two! No knowledge of Taskmaster required (although all the episodes are free-to-watch on the #Taskmaster YouTube channel). \nBy the end of each workshop\, we hope participants will: \n\nDiscover the value of problem-based/inquiry-based learning and active learning;\nExperience firsthand an active learning/inquiry-based activity; and\,\nBegin to design engaging learning activities based on their specific teaching context.\n\n*This session will be 90 minutes (60-minute interactive workshop + 30 minutes optional conversation and Q&A)

SUMMARY:Fictional Classrooms: National Community of Practice (Fall 2025) – September 2025 Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Fictional Classrooms: National Community of Practice (Fall 2025) – September 2025 Meeting\nDate: Monday\, September 22nd\, 2025 \nTime: 3:30-4:30pm (AT) / 2:30-3:30pm (ET) / 11:30am-12:30pm (PT) \nSign up to join! (you may be prompted to log in to your Google account) \n  \nFictional Classrooms National Community of Practice Description:   \nOver the past three years\, our very own Matthew Dunleavy (CTEI Senior Educational Developer\, Faculty Excellence and Development) and his colleague\, Robin Sutherland-Harris (York University)\, have facilitated the Fictional Classrooms community. The current iteration brings together educational/curriculum/faculty/instructional developers and instructors from across Canada and the US to explore and reflect on narratives of education in films\, television\, short stories\, and novels. These works may speak to us as learners\, educators\, developers\, researchers\, artists\, and/or simply as humans.  \nFor Fall 2025\, the Fictional Classrooms community will be discussing:  \n\nCommunity S05E02 “Introduction to Teaching” (TV show) – September 22 \n\n\n“The Unknowable Pleasures” by Susie Yang (short story) – October 27 \n\n\nLegally Blonde (dir. Robert Luketic) (film) – November 24 \n\n\nAnd Then She Fell by Alicia Elliott (novel) – December 15 \n\nYou can read about all these selections (and previous selections) in our what to read/watch list.  \nTo join the Fictional Classrooms Community for Summer 2025:  \nPlease sign up as follows:   \n\n Visit https://groups.google.com/search?q=FictionalClassroomsED (you may be prompted to log in to your Google account) \n On the right-hand side\, click the small “Join” icon (next to the star) and ask to join group.\n Matthew and Robin will approve your request within 2 working days\, and you will then have access to the group\, including their shared Google Folder and Calendar. \n\nNote from Matthew and Robin: We approach the Fictional Classrooms program with a “read-what-you-can” mentality. We understand that we can get busy and may not finish readings each month\, but we encourage you to attend each session regardless of how much you have been able to engage with the text or film so we can still have fruitful conversations and build community.
