The Centre for Teaching Excellence and Innovation (CTEI, or “The Centre”) is excited to share a preview of our 2025 Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) initiatives!
Each initiative offers a different way for you to engage in SoTL and get started on brainstorming ideas for, designing, and even conducting your own SoTL research project. See below for details, and make sure to let us know you’re interested by filling out this Expression of Interest Form!
And check out our SoTL page on the CTEI website for how we define and situate SoTL at Yorkville U + TFS.
Journal Club (CTEI Community)
We are excited to be launching our first CTEI Community of the 2025 year, our first-ever Journal Club! Join the CTEI for monthly get-togethers where members will gather to share and discuss ideas on teaching, learning, and education more broadly. Discussions will be guided by selected journal articles balancing theory and practice.
The first meeting will be on March 5th at 10AM PT / 1PM ET / 2PM ET. Sign up here, and check out our CTEI Communities page for more details!
Cultivating Scholarly Innovation in Teaching (6-Week Course)
This 6-week course through The Centre will take participants through the key phases of designing a SoTL research project. Topics will include: developing a SoTL question; designing data collection instruments; analyzing qualitative data; applying for approval from the University Research Ethics Board; and more. Each week, participants can access a new asynchronous module. Participants will also be invited to join synchronous sessions facilitated by the CTEI team to share ideas. By the end of the course, participants will have a SoTL project ready to be refined and carried out.
Registration is expected to open in April, with the course beginning in May. (Don’t want to wait for registration in April? Express your interest today and we’ll be sure you get notified when registration opens!)
SoTL Scholars (2-Year Fellowship)
Committed to scholarly, reflective teaching? Interested in not only conducting a SoTL research project but also representing Yorkville U and TFS as an exemplary SoTL scholar? This year, we will be launching SoTL Scholars, a 2-year fellowship program which will provide up to $20,000 in funding and ongoing consultative support to participants to complete a SoTL research project from start to finish. SoTL scholars will also participate in monthly community of practice meetings, as well as co-design and deliver workshops on teaching and learning. Full- and part-time faculty members and instructors in all programs offered by Yorkville U + TFS are eligible to apply.
Applications are expected to open this summer. More details to come!
